OUR VISION

EdAdvocate creates innovative global pilot initiatives for underserved and maligned youth, allowing vulnerable populations to thrive.

OUR INSPIRATION

The inspiration for EdAdvocate began with its founder, an educator whose passion for teaching and learning was reinvigorated during graduate studies focused on Problem Based Learning. This educator was hired at a Title 1 school in Chicago with 99% racial segregation, low graduation rates and rival gangs. She was advised to run daily worksheet exercises utilizing 20 year textbooks as curriculum to assist with standardized test preparation. Budget strapped, and frustrated, she looked to the community around her classroom like museum curators, city planners, foreign service officers, architects and engineers to design real life learning experiences for her students. Through her creative efforts, she found that strong mentors led to maximum student engagement.

EdAdvocate was formed because this was a problem beyond this pilot classroom. Colleagues were inspired the efforts but lacked the immense time required in the design of units as well as connection to community members.

In its inaugural initiative, EdAdvocate created a database of 50 community members and 25 classroom teachers to participate in curriculum experiences designed by EdAdvocate. The organization bridged the gap between the classroom and the community to great success: in participating classrooms, there was a large increase in student engagement, higher graduation numbers, increased test scores, lower gang involvement and higher collegiate applications.

HOW WE’VE EVOLVED

Today, EdAdvocate serves as a global bridge to implement educational programs through test classrooms, curriculum and benchmark design, teacher mentorship and data analysis. EdAdvocate partners with organizations specializing in maligned populations, children in need, and vulnerable learners. Focused on inspired learning and measurable outcomes, project emphasis is placed on sustainability of initiatives.
